The 80s saw many gay musicians choosing to adopt disco as a genre of music that reflected their lifestyles, and that of their audiences. Most gay nightclubs played exclusively disco music as opposed to other kinds of music, and in fact, the gay disco musicians could be sub-classified under Hi-NRG.

Modern Rocketry were a band during the mid 80s and were quite unknown, even during the 1980s.
In the year 1985, they released “Homosexuality” which has often been described as the gayest disco song ever, and the single even featured the b-side “Thank God for Men”.

The band remained in oblivion for a long time except for the time when Homosexuality was played at gay nightclubs.

The record "Homosexuality" soon became a gay club dance classic

"As a teenager I remember first hearing this song on an underground bootleg nightclub mix tape from a local gay disco (Ronnyz).
The mix tape was full of cutting edge dance tunes and all the kids at school wanted copies of it.
It was the only way for us school kids to hear cutting edge dance music - especially music popular in gay clubs
(famous for having the very best dance music)

"Homosexually" was a mega taboo subject for us school kids, but was good to hear some folks were living it up
"In San Francisco" and "On Fire Island"

The track has a great 80's electro dance baseline and very cool synth rifts

JIVING TO THE WEEKEND BEAT (Various Artists) south african disco jive dance pop 80's

south african dance pop 80's
-
The story of JIVING TO THE WEEKEND BEAT is the tale of those pioneering South African bands of the past 25 years who sidestepped apartheid's separate development strategies by shelving recycled imported rock and roll formulae and turning to a distinctive African pop-rock groove. This is the sound of the African musical bedrock of South African pop and rock in the 80's - the jubilant township jive that was unapologetically about getting your Afro-pop party started.

The songs here are all about the meeting and greeting of African and Western pop traditions that saw the weekend beat evolve into a 24/7 homegrown groove hybird. Gatheres together, for the first time on one album, are 19 of the most memorable classic tunes of South African pop music.

Savuka's righteous ubuntu-pop epic "Scatterlings", Evoid's jubilant township ethon-gypsy title track , Hotline's stomping 1984 Afro-rock staduim anthem "Jabulani", Sipho Hotstix Mabuse's hypnotic and effervescent "Burnout" and Bafo Bafo's multicultural chakalaka of Afro-Saxon folk and maskanda on "Manje".

Add to this Mango Groove's celebratory African kwela rhythmic stomp meets big band on "Hellfire" and timeless gems by Via Afrika, Bright Blue, The Spectres, Blk Sonshine, Zia, Urban Creep and many others and you have one of the vibiest albums of the year - guaranteed to get ant party hopping!

Digitally remastered with pics and liner notes by renowned music write Miles Keylock, JIVING TO THE WEEKEND BEAT joins an ever growing catalogue of classic South African pop and rock albums released as part of Fresh Music's Retro series.

BANANARAMA - I Can't Help It (UK Original & Remixes 12'' Mixes) 1987-1988 Hi-Nrg Eurobeat 80's pwl

Hi-Nrg Eurobeat 80's pwl

TRACKLISTING
01  I Can't Help It (Extended Club Mix) (8.07)  1987
02  Ecstacy (Chicago House Stylee) (4.18)  1987
03  Mr Sleaze (Rare Groove Remix) (6.02)  1987
04  I Can't Help It (The Hammond Excursion Mix) (6.38)  1988

"I Can't Help It" is a song written and recorded by English girl group Bananarama.

It is included on their fourth studio album Wow! and was released as its third single except in the U.S., where it was the album's second single (following "I Heard a Rumour") and Australia, where it was the album's fourth single (after "I Want You Back").

The track was co-written and produced by the Stock Aitken Waterman (SAW) trio.

The song is a disco-influenced pop tune similar to many hits produced by SAW during this time period

The single peaked at number twenty in the UK singles chart, #27 on the Australian ARIA chart (where it was released in August 1988 after I Want You Back), and just missed the top-forty on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. A hit in nightclubs, "I Can't Help It" climbed to number seven on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart.

This is the final Bananarama single to feature Siobhan Fahey, who announced her departure shortly after its release.

The photos on the record sleeve were taken by famous American photographer Herb Ritts. The record sleeves for "I Can't Help It" and "Love in the First Degree" were switched with each other for the UK and North American markets.

The song's suggestive lyrics and music video further perpetuated Bananarama's sensual visual image that the group began to incorporate with their previous album True Confessions.

The "I Can't Help It" video featured muscle men dancing, colourful backdrops, and Sara Dallin and Keren Woodward in a milk bath filled with fruit and naked men.

Siobhan Fahey, heavily pregnant at the time, also appears but was only shown on camera from the shoulders up. Music video directed by Andy Morahan.

"Love the "Pumpin' Drum Beats, synth rifts & funky guitar licks" on this track!"
"Sounds very 70's Chic (I Want You Love)"
"God...sounds like i'm describing a 70's Porno!"
Scores 10/10!

KLF - The White Room (Album) 1991 eurodance 90's classic dance anthems

-
The KLF (also known as The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, The Timelords and other names) were one of the seminal bands of the British acid house movement during the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Beginning in 1987, Bill Drummond (alias King Boy D) and Jimmy Cauty (alias Rockman Rock) released hip hop-inspired and sample-heavy records as The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, and on one occasion (the British number one hit single "Doctorin' the Tardis")
as The Timelords.

The abbreviation of the band has long been a mystery; however in a interview in Wired 2010 Bill revealed it to stand for "Kentucky Liberation Front", meant as a satire of the United States as the band saw it at the time.

The KLF released a series of international top-ten hits on their own KLF Communications record label, and became the biggest-selling singles act in the world for 1991

The duo also published a book, The Manual,
and worked on a road movie called The White Room.

2.  The Great Outdoors! (5.02)  1982
3.  Tora! Tora! Tora! (4.28)  1982
4.  Get The Balance Right! (Single Edit) (3.12)  1983
"Get the Balance Right!" is the seventh single by Depeche Mode, originally released on 31 January 1983. It is the first Depeche Mode single with Alan Wilder as an official band member, and the first with a song written by both Martin Gore and Wilder ("The Great Outdoors!").

In the music video Wilder lip-syncs the first lines of the song, even though Dave Gahan should be singing it. The band were too afraid to tell the director that Gahan was the lead singer.
For some reason the director made the assumption that the singer was Wilder and they were too embarrassed to point out his mistake, the video remains this way today.

The music video is not commercially available.

"Bizarre Love Triangle"
Every time I think of you
I feel shot right through with a bolt of blue
It's no problem of mine
But it's a problem I find
Living a life that I can't leave behind
But there's no sense in telling me
The wisdom of the fool won't set you free
But that's the way that it goes
And it's what nobody knows
well every day my confusion grows

Every time I see you falling
I get down on my knees and pray
I'm waiting for that final moment
You say the words that I can't say

I feel fine and I feel good
I'm feeling like I never should
Whenever I get this way
I just don't know what to say
Why can't we be ourselves like we were yesterday
I'm not sure what this could mean
I don't think you're what you seem
I do admit to myself
That if I hurt someone else
Then I'll never see just what we're meant to be

Every time I see you falling
I get down on my knees and pray
I'm waiting for that final moment
You say the words that I can't say
