HOLLY JOHNSON 🌩️ "HEAVEN'S HERE" (Mount Olympus 12'' Mix) 1989 electronic synth pop dance '80s REMASTERED 2023 WAV HQ AUDIO

"Heaven's Here" 🌩️ a song by English singer Holly Johnson, released in 1989 as the fourth and final single from his debut solo album Blast. It was written by Johnson and produced by Stephen Hague. The song reached No. 62 in the UK and No. 22 in Ireland.

Upon release, Melody Maker commented: "Holly's a great one for the notion that social improvement begins with the self. We are all prospective gods and the sweet "Heaven's Here" tells us, "This is your lifetime".

Tony Beard of Record Mirror described the song as "classy show-off pop" and added: "Not as stop-you-in-yer-tracks catchy as "Americanos" nor as thrillingly shocksome as anything by Frankie, but Holly Johnson really has hit a rich vein of form of late hasn't he?"

Music & Media considered the song "more commercial" than the preceding "Atomic City" and described it as an "easy-going, mid-tempo number with a good chorus".

📚 SONG LYRICS - "HEAVEN'S HERE" 🌩️ (as performed by HOLLY JOHNSON)

This is your lifetime
No matter what time of life
There's wonder in the air if you stop to care.
Look at heaven
It's kissing clouds
Everybody's living
Everybody's proud.

Sweet dreams tonight and forever
Secret lives we live together
Feel warm inside
This is your time
Peace
Harmony and love divine.

Heaven's here
Heaven's here
We're playing gods and angels
Heaven's here
Heaven's here.

Summer rain on your face
You're touched by grace
Blue skies
White lies and cherry pies.
Lay me down and love me
Leave the light so I can see.
Angel mine
Let's dream together
Sacred hearts that love forever
Feel warm inside
This is your time
Peace
Harmony and love divine.

Heaven's here
Heaven's here
Why waste your time in a living hell ?
You can live in cloudland just as well !
Sweet dreams tonight and forever
Heaven's here
Heaven's here

SONG BACKGROUND: "Darla dirladada" is a song recorded by French singer Dalida, released on single during summer of 1970. It was a #1 hit in France.

The song is based on Greek folk song "Dirlada" (Greek: Ντιρλαντά), originating from the island of Kalymnos in Greece. "The Dirlada has been popular on the Greek island Kalymnos for a very long time.

Dirlada, which we encounter in several versions and in a number of variants, is a work song, which might be sung oil-press to hearten the workers tolling at the hand-press of the time, or in the boats during the processing of sponges, or when pulling the oars.

The tune but also the name, seem to be related to similar songs of the peoples of North Africa, with whom the Kalymnians long maintained - and still maintain - close relations, owing to the islanders' sponge-diving activities along the coasts of Egypt and Cyrenaica. The musicologist Samuel Baud-Bovy speaks of tunes that are common to the peoples of the Mediterranean. We encounter such tunes in Kalymnos, as well. In the years after the last World War, it began to be danced on Kalymnos in a manner reminiscent of Arabic dances, arapika , as they were called; that is, it was danced by couples, as a face-to-face, and the steps were quick and springy.

The song is begun by one singer, the rest of the group joining in at the "break" and repeating the words.

MODERN VERSIONS:
Dionysis Savvopoulos sang "Dirlada" on his 1969 album To Perivoli tou Trelou.

In 1970 the song was recorded by French singer Dalida. It was released as a single from her album Ils ont changé ma chanson, on which it features as the sixth track. Dalida also recorded the song in Italian, German, and English-language versions.

In the same year it was also recorded by Cypriot-American-Israeli singer Trifonas Nikolaidis in Israel and released as an EP with 2 additional songs on the B-side.

It was the inspiration for the 1971 pop song Loop di Love by Juan Bastós.

The famous Greek songstress Marinella recorded two spirited cover versions of the song in 1971. One appeared on a compilation LP with various artists entitled ‘’Ena Karavi Yemato Tragoudia / A Boat Full of Songs’’. The other more known version appears as the last track of her studio album ‘’Enas Mithos/A Story’’

In 1973, Chilean singer José Alfredo Fuentes recorded an adaptation of the song in Spanish, released as "Dirladada".

The song has been covered by the Belgian-Flemish singer Marva. The most notable cover version, so far, is that of G.O. Culture in 1993, which became a huge hit in France.

The song is popular in Finland as well, recorded with Finnish lyrics by Kai Hyttinen in 1972. Erkki Pälli, a Finnish music producer and a journalist, heard this rousing song on a holiday in Rhodos back in 1971–72 and brought it back home with him. He offered it to Kai "Kuju" Hyttinen, who got a hit single of it. Pälli had just misheard the song and in Finland it is known as "Dirlanda" or "Dirlandaa".

Finnish music group Jean S. has also re-covered the song.

In 1982, a high energy disco version by 'Tanya' was released by Canadian Ali Baba Records, and widely bootlegged in the USA, Mexico and South American countries.

In 1995, for their fifth album, the Macedonian rock band "Memorija", recorded a version of this song, titled "Dirlada".

In 2018, the Romanian band D-l Goe covered the song to honour the 1st of March holiday, using an electro rock approach for the Romanian lyrics, previously used by singer Margareta Paslaru.

Along with Giorgio Moroder, he often is credited as a pioneer of electronic dance music. During his teenage years, Cowley became a successful drummer with local amateur bands before attending Niagara University and later the University at Buffalo to study English. In 1971, at the age of 21, Cowley moved to San Francisco to attend the City College of San Francisco (CCSF) where he studied music, specifically the use of synthesizers. Cowley met San Francisco-based musician Sylvester in 1978. Sylvester had asked Cowley to join his studio band after hearing some of his early synthesizer recordings. He played synthesizer on Sylvester's 1978 album Step II which included the hits "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)" and "Dance (Disco Heat)". In addition, he wrote "Stars" and "I Need Somebody to Love Tonight" from his 1979 album Stars. Cowley also joined Sylvester's live band and joined him on several world tours. Cowley's own hits included "Menergy" in 1981, a frank celebration of the gay club scene, and "Megatron Man", which hit #1 and #2 respectively on the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in 1981. That same year, Patrick Cowley was celebrated at the Menergy parties at The EndUp in San Francisco. He also wrote and produced the dance single "Right on Target" for San Francisco artist Paul Parker, which reached #1 on the Billboard dance chart in 1982. "Do Ya Wanna Funk", a collaboration with Sylvester, made #4 on the Billboard dance chart that same year. Cowley also did a 15'45" long remix of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love", which is now a collector's item. Mind Warp, his final album, was composed as he felt the increasing effects of HIV infection, and its songs reflect his increasing detachment from conventional reality as the disease progressed. During a world tour with Sylvester in late 1981, Cowley complained of feeling increasingly unwell. Upon returning to the United States, he visited a doctor who diagnosed food poisoning. Weeks later, with his condition only worsening, doctors again failed to identify what was wrong with him. At this early stage in the history of the HIV and AIDS, misdiagnosis was common and so Cowley, who was gay, was discharged from the hospital (in 1982) after doctors could do nothing more for him. Cowley died at his home in the Castro District neighbourhood in San Francisco on November 12, 1982. He was 32 years old, an early victim of AIDS. A couple of tracks were completed for a planned Sarah Dash album that year, which was cut short by Cowley's death. Despite never fully achieving mainstream commercial success, Cowley is nevertheless regarded as a pioneer of early electronic music and the creator of Hi-NRG, an uptempo strain of disco. Various 1980s artists such as Pet Shop Boys and New Order have cited his influence as a producer. Cowley has been described as "a musical pioneer whose achievements rippled throughout queer culture and beyond into the disco mainstream". Since the 2010s, Cowley's profile has risen as "listeners and scholars excavate disco's intersection with gay liberation." Amid the accompanying emergence of nu-disco in the late 2000s and early 2010s, profiles of Cowley across social media and other high-profile outlets have contributed to a resurgence of interest in his work.

The Real Background Story:

ITALO DISCO "SLEAZE":

Background Soundtrack Music in 80s XXX Adult Videos 📼

(How Italo Disco sometimes ended up, in American hardcore 80s porn video soundtracks)

Hardly ever discussed, but Italo Disco Instrumental / Dub mixes were featured pretty often in USA/Canadian 80s adult video films.

Home Video (Betamax / VHS) was introduced in North America in the late 70s.   This new home technology quickly created a HUGE market for home adult films sold on video cassettes.

The quickest, cheapest and most profitable practice was for XXX film studios to use existing 70s "loops" 🎞️ cinema porn films and make them available on home video for sale. 📼

Most of the 70s "loops" porn films had no sound.  Film producers needed many hundreds of hours of background instrumentals for the adult home video releases.

Nightclub DJs were already playing slowed down ITALO SLEAZE instrumental sets, mostly early morning sets, played for a few hours, before closing time.

Porn Studios would commission DJs to make reel to reel mixes, with many hours of original "unknown" instrumental dub tunes.   Electronic sounding Italo Disco instrumentals worked well, as made the old 70s "loops" adult films seem much more modern.   📼

Between 1980 to 1984 this practice was extremely common.   Hi-NRG disco instrumental dub mixes were used too, but the sleazy sounding (and mostly unknown) Italo instrumentals were most popular.

These American and Canadian XXX Video productions 📼 would travel around the world, via sales and piracy.

Sometimes, for music lovers, more legendary for having a cool killer "unknown italo dub mix" soundtrack than for the onscreen action!

Continuing his cinematic work, he starred in two more of Waters' films, Polyester (1981) and Hairspray (1988), the latter of which represented his breakthrough into mainstream cinema and for which he was nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male. Independent of Waters, he also appeared in a number of other films, such as Lust in the Dust (1985) and Trouble in Mind (1985), seeking to diversify his repertoire by playing male roles. In 1981, Divine embarked on a career in the disco industry by producing a number of Hi-NRG tracks, most of which were written by Bobby Orlando. He achieved international chart success with hits like "You Think You're a Man", "I'm So Beautiful", and "Walk Like a Man", all of which were performed in drag. Having struggled with obesity throughout his life, he died from cardiomegaly, shortly after the release of Hairspray. Described by People magazine as the "Drag Queen of the Century", Divine has remained a cult figure, particularly within the LGBT community, and has provided the inspiration for fictional characters, artworks, and songs. Various books and documentary films devoted to his life have also been produced, including Divine Trash (1998) and I Am Divine (2013).
